Weekend Crime Blotter: Rape in Canarsie, Police DWI in Marine Park & More

CANARSIE – Police are on the lookout for the armed man who raped a 12-year old girl in Canarsie earlier this month.

The suspect, armed with a knife, entered a home near Farragut Road and Remsen Avenue around 7:30 am on Monday, March 5, hiding behind a shower curtain in the bathroom, said police. When the victim entered the room, the suspect forced her to the ground, removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint, said police.

The victim also suffered a laceration to the hand during the attack and was treated at a local hospital. The suspect is a short man, 5’6″ to 5’8″, heavyset, with a Caribbean accent, said police. Unfortunately, there are no photos or videos available to help identify the suspect.

BROWNSVILLE – Police are looking for two teenage suspects that assaulted and robbed a 75-year old man in Brownsville last week.

Around 1:45 pm on Monday, March 12, the two suspects snuck up on their victim from behind near the intersection of Saratoga and St. Marks Avenue, choking him and throwing him to the ground, said police. The suspects stole $300 and the man’s state ID before fleeing the scene.

The victim refused medical treatment after the incident, said police. Photos of the suspects can be seen below:

MARINE PARK – A police sergeant was busted for DWI in Marine Park in the early hours of Sunday after crashing into a parked car near East 34th Street and Avenue U this weekend, said police.

Sgt. William Shaleesh, a 25-year veteran of the NYPD, crashed his 2016 Hyundai into a parked car, reported the NY Post. Police responded to the scene to find Shaleesh allegedly drunk. The sergeant was suspended without pay and charged with DWI.
