Weekend Crime Blotter: A Midday Bank Robbery, A Shoeless Bandit & More
CYPRESS HILLS – Police are looking for the man who robbed a Cypress Hills bank over the weekend, making off with about $2,000 in cash.
The incident occurred around 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 12, at the Citi Bank located at 80 Jamaica Avenue, near Bushwick Avenue and the entrance to the Jackie Robinson Parkway. According to police, the suspect entered the bank, passed a note demanding cash to the teller, then fled with the money when the teller complied.

CANARSIE – After a shooting last week left a man dead in Canarsie, police have identified the victim—and arrested a number of suspects in his murder.
The victim was identified by NYPD as Julian Edwards, 21, of Canarsie. Following an investigation into his shooting, police arrested and charged the following individuals:
- Darren Wilson, 18, of Canarsie; Charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment
- Rean Awong, 21, of Flatbush Ditmas Park; Charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon
- Anjuwon Butcher, 21, of Flatbush Ditmas Park; Charged with criminal possession of a loaded weapon
EAST NEW YORK – Police are looking for a suspect who shot another man in the neck and shoulder in East New York earlier this month.
The incident occurred around 4:45 am on Saturday, May 5, said police, near 71 Milford Street. A 26-year old male victim was approached by the suspect, who shot him twice, said police. The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
The suspect fled in a dark-colored SUV on Atlantic Avenue, said police. Surveillance video of the suspect can be seen below:
BRIGHTON BEACH – Police are looking for the shoeless robber who assaulted a woman in Brighton Beach late in the evening on Friday, May 4.
Around 11:00 pm, the 58-year old female victim was walking home in the area of Brighton Beach Avenue and Brighton 6 Street, when the attacker, who was only wearing socks on her feet, jumped the woman from behind. The suspect threw the victim to the ground and kicked her in the face several times, said police, before stealing her cellphone and wallet.

SUNSET PARK – After an attempted robbery, a man was assaulted by three individuals in Sunset Park, and police are now on the lookout for the suspects.
The incident occurred just before 5:00 am on Friday, May 4, when three unidentified individuals approached a 36-year old man outside of 217 50th Street, near 2nd Avenue in Sunset Park, police said. The three suspects demanded the victim’s cell phone, and when he refused, they assaulted him before fleeing on foot, police said.
The man suffered minor injuries and was not treated at a hospital. Video surveillance of the incident can be seen below:
