Weekday Fun: The Best Events September 15-17


There’s plenty to enjoy around the neighborhood this week, from Brooklyn Book Festival Bookend events, to a philosophical talk on street art, to a chance to drink with some dogs while helping a rescue organization in the process. Details on those events and more below.

Slam, Bam, Thank You Ma’am.

What: Painted Bride Quarterly hosts a night of laughs and blue books — they’ll bring the pens, paper, and brotherly love, you bring the hospitality and your beautiful minds.
How much: Free!

The Street In Street Art
When: Tuesday, September 16, 7pm
Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The compelling lecture series returns for its second year, and kicking things off is Nick Riggle of Lafayette College, who will discuss street art as art that uses the street as a cultural space with the function of promoting public interaction.
How much: Free!

Hot And Bothered: Writers On Fire
When: Tuesday, September 16, 8pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Three writers — Lisa Gornick (Tinderbox), Marian Fontana (A Widow’s Walk), and Beth Bosworth (The Source of Life and Other Stories) — come together to explore just what makes fire irresistible to us as writers, readers, and human beings.
How much: $5 suggested donation.

Breaking Bad Trivia
When: Tuesday, September 16, 8-9:30pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: Time to put all those hours of watching this series to work!
How much: Free, but first-come, first-served, so arrive early.

Pitch-A-Palooza!
When: Wednesday, September 17, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry, authors of The Book Doctors, will discuss everything budding writers need to complete, sell, and market their books successfully. Plus, they’ll give aspiring writers the chance of a lifetime — one minute to pitch their book ideas to a panel of publishing experts. The person with the best pitch receives an introduction to an agent!
How much: Free!

Park Slope For Pets End-Of-Summer Pawty
When: Wednesday, September 17, 7-9pm
Where: The Gate, 321 5th Avenue
What: The newly launched website is hosting a free event for local pet owners to connect over pups and beers! Professional trainers Anthony Newman of Calm Energy Dog Training and Charles Henderson of the Charles Henderson Animal Rescue will be there to answer questions about training and obedience, and The Gate will donate a significant portion of proceeds from sales of Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA to the Charles Henderson Animal Rescue (which you can also donate to online). Plus, 25 lucky guests will receive a treat bag filled with pet goodies generously donated by local businesses.
How much: Free admission, and then buy some beers to support a good cause!
