Weekday Fun: The Best Events October 6-8

New York Archives Week Tour Of The Brooklyn Collection
When: Monday, October 6, 6-8pm
Where: Central Library, Brooklyn Collection, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Tour the facilities of the Brooklyn Collection, the local history division at Brooklyn Public Library. You’ll learn about their holdings and programs, and get a demo of Brooklyn Newsstand, which hosts the full run of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper. And since history can make you hungry, they’ll be serving wine and cheese.
How much: Free, but limited to 40 guests, so register to reserve your spot.
The Moth StorySlam
When: Monday, October 6, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Whether you’re chosen to tell your 5-minute story or you just get to listen to others, this month’s topic — hunger — should be a pretty tasty one! The winning storyteller of the night gets to move on to a GrandSlam Championship.
How much: $8 at the door.
The Fancy Show: 27
When: Tuesday, October 7, 8pm
Where: Bar Reis, 375 5th Avenue
What: Looking for a fun night of stand-up and free popcorn and drink giveaways? Then this is the place for you. This week features Steve O’Brien, Brooke Van Poppelen, Doug Smith, Jared Logan, Jeffrey Joseph, Mike Lebovitz, and is hosted by Michael Joyce.

Punderdome 3000
When: Tuesday, October 7, 8pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Brooklyn’s premier monthly punning competition is back in all its linguistic glory. The event is open to all, but only 18 spots are reserved for competitors who want to participate in competitive spontaneous pun-making, and they go to individuals or duos on a first-come/first-served basis.
How much: Tickets: $6 in advance, $7 at the door.
TriviaTryst
When: Wednesday, October 8, 8:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Gather up your most knowledgeable friends and display your powerful brains (and temper that power with a drink or two, perhaps) during this trivia night where teams of up to 6 people can win $50 in prizes, plus prizes from Brooklyn Brewery.

Film Screening: Charlie Chan At The Opera
When: Wednesday, October 8, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: See the 1936 film starring Boris Karloff as a man who avenges himself against his philandering wife and her lover after he’s been locked in an insane asylum for years unable to remember who he is — and then the famous Charlie Chan gets on the case.
