Weekday Fun: The Best Events May 12-14


From a quiz show featuring a film critic, to a performance by a seminal NYC punk rock band, to a reading from a bestselling author of a parenting book, there are some interesting things to do this week right in the neighborhood. Details on those events and more:

Ask Me Another
When: Monday, May 12, 7:30pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: The live recording of the NPR game show this time features special guest Emily Nussbaum, film critic at the New Yorker.
How much: $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Bike Helmet Giveaway
When: Tuesday, May 12, 4-6:30pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The DOT will be giving away free bike helmets to people of all ages while supplies last. You must be present to get a helmet, and you must learn how to properly fit and wear it before you receive it. Adults over 18 receiving a helmet must sign a waiver, and a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign a waiver for children under age 18.

Meet The Author: Jennifer Senior
When: Tuesday, May 13, 6:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Calling all parents! Do you find yourself lost in a sea of strollers and play dates? Do your dreams involve Sophie the Giraffe riding a Mini Kick? You’re not alone. Join other neighborhood parents at the Park Slope Library Tuesday for a reading and discussion with author Jennifer Senior from her New York Times bestselling book, All Joy And No Fun: The Paradox of Modern Parenthood.

Reagan Youth, Dust Angel, GASH, All Torn Up
When: Tuesday, May 13, 7pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: See the seminal NYC punk rock band Reagan Youth, responsible for such awesome songs as Degenerated and In Dog We Trust. Fun fact: founding guitarist Paul Cripple is my cousin.

Trivia Night
When: Wednesday, May 14, 7:30-9:30pm
Where: The Roof at Whole Foods, 214 3rd Street
What: Trivia NYC presents a fun, free night of trivia where you’ll not only get bragging rights if you win, but some prizes.
