Edgy Moms 2015

Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Hear some provocative writing about mothers and motherhood at Brooklyn Reading Works annual event, curated and hosted by Louise Crawford and Sophia Romero. The lineup includes readings by Julia Fierro, Lisa Gornick, Stephanie Thompson, Romero, Sean Grover, and Jennifer Michael Hecht, with a special reading of the Edgy Moms Manifesto by Crawford.

Created In Brooklyn: Creative Communities

Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: In this series, photographer Randy Duchaine discusses the power of sharing space with Brooklyn-based innovators — this time, Eadaoin Quinn of Sims Municipal Recycling; Gabrielle Shubert from New York Transit Museum; and Barry Rust from Great Plains Handmade. Plus, look out for snacks provided by Whole Foods.

The American Tattooed Ladies: 1840-2015
When: Wednesday, May 13, 8pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue
What: How could a talk about tattooed ladies — particularly in the freak show and dime museum circuits — not come complete with visual aids? This one, led by Anni Irish, does, and it should be an interesting one.
How much: $8, tickets available in advance.
Shape Up NYC: Glutes In Gear
When: Wednesday, May 13, 6-7pm
Where: Prospect Park, Audubon Center
What: Looking for a belly-busting, booty shaping workout? This two-part class focuses on high-endurance cardio and mat work to build your core, and flatten and tighten your abs and glutes. No registration is required, but be sure to bring your own mat.

Not Suitable For Television: An Evening Of Material Rejected From TV
When: Wednesday, May 13, 8pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: It’s like watching TV, but live, as writers and comedians share material rejected from TV, including “jokes that didn’t make it past censors, sketches cut for time, pitches gone awry, and just some really, really bad ideas.” Featuring Seaton Smith, Aparna Nancherla, Michelle Wolf, Adam Lowitt, Jo Firestone, Nick Vatterott, Ashley Bez, Griffin Newman, Zach Linder, and Brendan McLaughlin, plus surprise guests.
