What: Hear new jazz music primarily written and arranged by the band members — their sounds are marked by “an electric mixture of exceptional rhythm section playing, spontaneous creation of compositional elements, and disciplined ensemble work.”

How Language Shapes Our Perception Of The Social World

Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: At the last of this neat series for the season, Princeton’s Sarah-Jane Leslie will discuss how the different ways we phrase things and use language, which may seem trivial and inconsequential, but have powerfully different effects on motivation and self-conception. Heady stuff, but it’s a discussion even non-philosophers will find compelling.

What: Funniest way to spend your Tuesday? What: Photographer Randy Duchaine will chat with individuals featured in his photographic series, Created in Brooklyn, about how their dedication to their craft shaped their careers and led them to extraordinary accomplishments. This week’s guests are Cybele Maylone of UrbanGlass, Lenny Shiller, antique car collector, and Scott Jordan, founder of Scott Jordan Furniture.

Vile Decay Book Release Party

Where: Bergen Street Comics, 470 Bergen Street
What: Celebrate the release of the third issue of Malachi Ward’s Ritual series, Vile Decay. Unfortunately, Malachi won’t be able to attend, but he’s signed copies of it already, and he’s also supplied Bergen Street with some limited edition prints, which they’ll be giving away with every copy of Vile Decay.
