Weekday Fun: The Best Events December 2-4

Stories about bossiness, a couple important neighborhood forums, puns, and a fundraiser all coming up this week in Park Slope:

The Moth StorySlam
When: Monday, December 2, 8pm (doors 7:30pm)
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: If you’ve got a compelling, 5-minute story to tell on the theme of “bossy,” head to this storytelling event, drop your name in the hat, and you may be one of 10 people picked to share it onstage. The winner will move on to a GrandSlam Championship.
How much: $8 at the door

Teachers Talk Testing
When: Tuesday, December 3, 6:30pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: Several teachers from local elementary schools will join a Columbia University Teachers College professor for presentations at Teachers Talk Testing, a forum about how New York City’s and New York State’s high stakes testing policies are impacting teachers professionally and in the classroom, and how this affects our children.

Neighborhood Forum On Street Safety
When: Tuesday, December 3, 6:30pm
Where: Park Slope United Methodist Church, 410 6th Avenue
What: Join the Park Slope Street Safety Partnership, a new group of community organizations and elected officials, for a forum on street safety in our neighborhood.

Punderdome 3000
When: Tuesday, December 3, 8pm (doors 7:30pm)
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Brooklyn’s premier monthly punning competition is back in all its linguistic glory. The event is open to all, but only 18 spots are reserved for competitors who want to participate in competitive spontaneous pun-making, and they go to individuals or duos on a first-come/first-served basis.
How much: $7 at the door, $6 in advance

Taste 4 The Philippines
When: Wednesday, December 4, 7-10pm
Where: The Green Building, 452 Union Street
What: Chef Dale and the gang from Talde, Thistle Hill and Pork Slope have joined forces with The Green Building, which has donated its space for the evening, and with restaurants across the city to raise money benefiting the millions of people affected by the recent storm.
How much: Tickets are $125 (with a $7.87 processing fee), but 100% of the night’s proceeds will be donated to World Vision
