Weekday Fun: The Best Events August 18-20

From a 17-piece orchestra playing a couple sets, to a figure drawing session, to a walking tour of important sites from the Battle of Brooklyn, there are a lot of interesting things to do in the neighborhood this week. Details on those events and more:

Size Matters: Scott Reeves Jazz Orchestra
When: Monday, August 18, 8:30pm & 10pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: Stop Possibly your last chance to hear the 17-piece orchestra (for a while, anyway). They’ll be performing several of original compositions, plus Reeves’ arrangement of Jobim’s Aquas De Marco and Shorter’s Ju Ju.
How much: $5 suggested donation.

Battle Of Brooklyn Neighborhood Walk
When: Tuesday, August 19, 6pm
Where: Meet at Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park, NW corner.
What: Old Stone House Board Member and Hunter College Archaeology Professor William J. Parry will lead a tour through the Battle past of Prospect Park and Park Slope. Wear comfortable shoes!
How much:

 $12, or $10 for OSH members, tickets available in advance.

Dynamic Figure Drawing
When: Tuesday, August 19, 6:30-8:30pm
Where:

 

Two Moon Art House & Cafe, 315 4th Avenue
What:

 Draw from a live nude model, focusing on a series of short, challenging poses (the longest poses will be 5 minutes), and enjoy snacks and wine from the cafe. Artists are encouraged to bring materials appropriate to sketching: charcoal, pens, pencils, and newsprint or sketch pads are ideal, but feel free to experiment.

Show Us Your Junk: An Inevitable Show & Tell Night
When: Wednesday, August 20, 8pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Brooklyn Brainery is hosting an educational show-and-tell night, featuring collectors, teachers?, history buffs, and more. Got an object with an interesting backstory? Sign up to talk about it! There will be prizes, and you’ll learn a lot of things you never, ever cared to know.
How much: $5, available in advance. Admission is free for presenters.

TriviaTryst
When: Wednesday, August 20, 8:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Gather up your most knowledgeable friends and display your powerful brains (and temper that power with a drink or two, perhaps) during this trivia night where teams of up to 6 people can win $50 in prizes, plus prizes from Brooklyn Brewery.
How much: Free!
