Here’s a recap of what happened in our neighborhood last week:
• A woman was robbed at gunpoint on E. 23rd Street, a teenager was assaulted on Westminster and Slocum, and three people tried to rob another neighbor at the same E. 23rd Street spot.
• Following a series of muggings, as well as the armed robbery of a taxi driver, police made two arrests.
• A 22-year-old man was convicted of shooting and killing an unarmed stranger on E. 23rd Street.
• One year after her son’s murder, a mother still has no answers as to who killed him.
• The FBI warned of a new kidnapping scam targeting New Yorkers.
• There was yet another accident at the ever-problematic Newkirk & Westminster intersection.
• Following the death of 14-year-old Naiem Uddin, the DOT announced numerous major safety upgrades coming to area streets.
• An upcoming merchants roundtable, a bill to provide schools with more security & more from this week’s CB 14 meeting.
• The Kings Theatre announced its star-studded musical lineup, from Gladys Knight to Mavado.
• What’s one of the best things about Ditmas Park? It’s many, many concentric circles away from Times Square.
• We welcomed Asya to the space that used to be Picket Fence.
• And we also said hello to a world of oddities and antiques at Stems.
• But we said goodbye to Famous Pita, which was shut down by the DOH.
• Nine Chains deliciously celebrated its first birthday.
• The PS 139 Chess Ninjas kicked butt – again!
• We looked for Bandit the dog…
• … and tried to find a home for Maru, a cat rescued from a bodega.
