Ways to Donate and Volunteer in Park Slope on Sunday

There are still ways to help out victims of Hurricane Sandy tomorrow, Sunday November 3. And remember that you have to set your clocks back an hour tonight for Daylight Saving Time!

• If you’re planning on heading out tonight for a drink, bring some supplies with you to donate. The Monro Pub is collecting items including cleaning supplies, baby wipes, clean underwear in all sizes, blankets and baby clothes. Drop off anytime until 4am.

The shelter at John Jay is in need of volunteers on Sunday to help with consolidate their approximately 219 evacuees (starting at 9am and for up to 6 hours); individual volunteers who will be assigned to individual families to provide emotional support and help that family move their belongings to their new space within the school (somewhat later in the day). Volunteers must be strong and willing to move cots, heavy bags, clean areas for families to move in, etc. You cannot bring your children; however, they are in need of baby wipes so if you have an unopened packs that you can donate, please bring them. • Join Church! of Park Slope at the Camp Friendship Building at 10:30am for 30 minutes of worship and prayer followed by 2 hours of meal preparations/donation organizing, etc. At 1:30pm cars will be headed to Far Rockaway and Sunset Park to drop off supplies and food. They also need cardboard boxes to transport goods – drop them off in the morning between 11:30am and 12:30pm.

Congregation Beth Elohim will begin making runs to deliver supplies at about 10am, and needs these items most: blankets, boxes, non-perishables, batteries, candles, matches/lighters, water. Please note: They are not able to take any more clothes. Volunteers will be on site beginning at 8am.

• The Red Hook Initiative opens on Sunday at 10am, and has a lot of needs.

MS 51 is hosting a open mic Talent Relief and bake sale to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims on Sunday. Students can sign up begins at 11am to sing, dance, juggle, play music, anything. Bring baked goods to sell, stop by buy some treats or to donate money and enjoy the show. All the money raised will go to relief efforts in our community. Will go on until 1pm, or as long as people want to perform.

• All the proceeds from a big stoop sale on Berkeley between 7th and 6th Avenues on Sunday at 12pm will be donated to the American Red Cross.

• If you head out to drink tomorrow, make sure to stop at Pacific Standard, where they will donate $1 for each drink they sell to the Red Hook Initiative.

•  The Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew in Clinton Hill is collecting items every day from 9am-9pm. Most in need: blankets, candles, flashlights, water, food, batteries, diapers and wipes, gloves, masks, rubber boots, shovels, cleaning supplies, trash bags, serving dishes and utensils, and winter clothing.
