Water Bottle Prices & Hydration Considerations Across Ditmas Park
New York is getting a serious dose of summer this week, and staying hydrated to avoid heat illness is key. Of course it would be ideal to have a reusable bottle for taking water on the go, but for the moments when you don’t have one handy, we decided to check out how much different stores are asking for recyclable bottles around Ditmas Park.
We didn’t hit everywhere–just took a sampling of bodegas, 99 cent stores, supermarkets, and chains across the area. The bottles we asked about were standard 16.9 oz bottles of Poland Spring or a similar brand, unless otherwise noted.
Here’s what we found:
Church Ave.
99 Cent City (1649 Church between E 17th and E 18th): $0.79- C Town (1301 Church on the corner of Argyle): $0.70
- Deli Grill Grocery (1201 Church on the corner of Westminster): $1
Cortelyou Rd.
- Cortelyou Superette (1120 Cortelyou on the corner of Westminster): $1
- Duane Reade (1517 Cortelyou between Marlborough and E 16th): there were no 16.9 oz bottles from brands we’d been seeing consistently elsewhere, but bulk volumes of those brands were selling from $1.69-2.49
- Met Foods (1610 Cortelyou between E 16th and E 17th): $1 for two 16.9 oz bottles
- S & S 99 Cents Store (1318 Cortelyou between Argyle and Rugby): $0.75
Coney Island Ave./Avenue H
- Friendly Rx (651-C Coney on the corner of Slocum): $0.25 not refrigerated, $0.60 refrigerated
- H & F Candy Store Inc. (1152 Coney on the corner of Avenue H): $1
Newkirk Area
- Newkirk Gourmet Deli (12 Newkirk Plaza): $1
- Victoria Grocery & Deli (1424 Newkirk Ave. on the corner of Marlborough): $1
Foster Ave.
- 1711 Shopping Center (1711 Foster between E 17th and E 18th Sts.): $1
- Shaide Deli (1325 Foster between Argyle and Rugby Rds.): $1
How do you stay hydrated during the summer in Ditmas? Do you pack your own bottle, or do you have a preferred place to buy? And if you’re out and about, have you found viable places to recycle one-use bottles when you’re done?
