Watch Out For Traffic On 5th Avenue As Crane Takes Over A Driving Lane
Expect some delays along 5th Avenue, as a large crane is set up for work between 12th and 13th Streets, taking over a lane of traffic on the street.
The crane is loading equipment onto the roof of 503 5th Avenue, which is the building that houses Mandee on the ground floor. According to permits filed with the Department of Buildings, two projects are underway — AT&T is adding “new antenna sectors” and associated equipment to the roof, and a non-emergency back-up gas generator is being installed, as well.
Only one lane is open on this section of 5th Avenue, which is currently accommodating both directions of traffic.
A worker on the site told us he wasn’t sure how long the work will take, but “definitely all day today” at least. So drivers and cyclists may want to avoid the area, if possible.
