Wallabout Film Festival Kicks Off Today; Support Pratt Student Organizers By Attending And Donating

The seventh annual Wallabout Film Festival kicks off tonight at 8pm (doors open at 7pm) at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg, so if you haven’t already purchased your tickets, now’s the time!

The student film festival is produced and curated by Pratt Institute students, but showcases films by “innovative student filmmakers from around the world” as a way to “screen their work to a diverse community of peers as well as industry professionals, initiating conversation and collaboration.”

Several films are scheduled to be displayed and will be judged by a jury of “a cross-section of filmmakers, programmers, journalists, academics, and other industry professionals.”

You and other attendees will also get to vote for the film that wins the Wallabout Audience Award.

Audience participation also goes a step further — to actually helping to fund the festival’s creation. As this is a completely student-run project, there are costs are more than what Pratt allotted from their budget, so students have launched an online fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to help cover/reimburse the cost of “food/drinks, promotional material, venue rental, awards for winning filmmakers, and swag bags for all filmmakers/jury in attendance.”

Donors receive swag themselves, too, depending on how much they donate.
