Volunteers Needed Now In Our Community

Do you have some flexible time right now? Do you want to make our community a better place for all of us? Do you want to meet more of your neighbors?

Here are two great volunteer opportunities in our area. We know there are many more — please send your suggestions in and we’ll gladly post them.

The Flatbush Tenant Coalition is launching a volunteer & internship initiative!

Whether you’re available an hour a month or several hours a week, whether you’re a teen or a senior, you can help us build tenant power and strengthen our community.

Learn more about housing in NYC. Access professional trainings. Share your skills and learn new ones. Get school and community credit. Join a community of neighbors fighting for stronger tenant rights and an end to displacement.

We’re looking for help with many projects, including:

  • Developing a website and expanding our social media presence
  • Assisting senior citizen tenants to sign up for rent assistance programs
  • Researching landlords in our neighborhood
  • Providing moral support and information for tenants in housing court
  • Helping our tenant leaders to document housing code violations
  • Creating promotional and/or educational materials (in multiple languages)
  • Providing interpretation at our meetings (esp. Haitian-Creole and Spanish)
  • Transportation (if you’ve got wheels)
  • Data entry, phone calls, and other administrative tasks

Our hours are flexible – days, evenings, weekends. We provide ongoing training and professional support for all our staff, volunteers, and interns!

The Church Avenue Business Improvement District is seeking volunteers to help clean up Church Avenue on May 14th.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, May 14th for “A Clean Church Avenue” (organized in partnership with the Flatbush Development Corp.’s Neighborhood Beautification Day).

We need help from the community to paint over graffiti, take down posters, and clean up trash.

This is a great way to spend time outdoors, get to know your neighbors and make Church Avenue nicer for all to enjoy. As a thank you for your hard work, volunteers are invited to the annual BBQ and magic show immediately following the clean-up. T-shirts and supplies will be provided to all volunteers.

What: “A Clean Church Avenue” Neighborhood Beautification Day
When: Saturday, May 14th from 10am to 2pm
Where: Meet up at 10am outside of Downtown Natural to get your t-shirt & supplies (Church Avenue and East 17th Street)
Register: Click here; or email us at info@churchavenue.org.

***Children are welcome but they must come with an adult to supervise them at all times.
