This year’s Haunted Walk and Fairy Tale Forest at Owl’s Head Park promises to be spookier than ever.
Volunteers will begin to build the gruesome sets on top of the hill, which has recently been renovated on Saturday, October 24.
“From stuffing dummies, to building mannequins, to hanging props, there’s plenty to do,” said Chip Cafiero, who organizes the fright festival each year.
The actual event will take place on Halloween Day, Saturday, October 31, from 1pm to 9pm at the park, which is bordered by Shore Road, 68th Street, and Colonial Road.
The fairy tale forest, which will be open from 2pm to 5pm and then from 7pm to 9pm, will include a pumpkin patch, arts and crafts, storytelling, rides, a photo booth, storytelling and more. The food court will include Lucy’s Sausages, zeppole, kettle corn, and more.
The haunted walk, which will run from 4pm to 9pm, will feature 12 creepy vignettes involving ghosts, ghouls, mad scientists, a scream house cafe, and more surprises, according to Cafiero.
Chip recommends folks bring their younger children while it is still light out, as it can get pretty spooky after dark.
“During the earlier show, it’s not too frightening, the actors are told to take it easy. But if you want to come at night, I would not bring the children, because it’s really scary,” he said.
Approximately 150 volunteers are needed to man the spook fest each year, and Cafiero recommends people get in touch early if they’d like to pitch in. He can be reached at chpster52@aol.com.
