Volunteers and Donations Needed at The Castello Plan
Ditmas Relief will continue to collect and distribute supplies this weekend. An update from Ben at The Castello Plan:
Between last Saturday, November 3rd and Wednesday, November 7th, Ditmas Park donated and distributed 20 bus loads of supplies and food throughout Far Rockaway, Coney Island and Gerritsen Beach, established a medical clinic, Veterinary MASH unit, delivered hot meals daily to four nursing homes and were the first responders new distribution points throughout the Hurricane Sandy most-affected areas.
As a community, we have been overwhelmingly successful. But our work is not done. We have been on the ground daily, diagnosing the situation, determining the best next steps, conversing with community organizers and are now creating an effective plan of action to aggressively clean-up and restore small patches of New York’s worst hit areas. Our work is not done!
The team has recommitted themselves and we are planning on pushing out today and Sunday morning at 10am for a clean-up effort going door-to-door in the most affected neighborhoods. Therefore I restate my initial clarion call for supplies, goods, food and volunteers.
We need: hundreds of individually packed lunches (sandwich, chips/pretzels and piece of fruit), cleaning supplies, bleach, batteries, tools, shovels, work gloves, hand sanitizer, face masks as well as diapers, baby cloths, baby food, blankets, non-perishable food, hats/gloves, new underwear for men and women, and feminine hygiene products.
Please bring all donations to The Castello Plan at 1213 Cortelyou Road, anytime today (Saturday) from 8am to 6pm, we will load and re-load our buses as long as there are donations.
