VIDEO: Kensington Senior Speaks To ABC 7 Eyewitness News About Assault
The elderly woman who was assaulted in her home this weekend spoke publicly about the attack today with Eyewitness News.
Erin Van Schendel, who is now reported as being 84-years-old, was assaulted on Saturday afternoon by a man who followed her into her building, located at Ocean Parkway and Beverley Road. The man then knocked on her apartment door and, according to Eyewitness News, “smashed” and broke her nose with the handle of a gun, badly bruising much of her face.
The man fled without stealing anything. Van Schendel told Eyewitness News that she believed he may have been deterred by the barking of her dogs.
Van Schendel was knocked to the floor by her 250 pound attacker, Eyewitness News reported. She added that she “barely” remembered the assault and that her attacker never uttered a word.
Van Schendel talked to Eyewitness News about the impact of Saturday’s horrific incident, saying that this was the first time in her life she had been attacked, and while she “didn’t have any reason before…[she’s] pretty nervous looking around corners.”
