Video: 61st Precinct’s Night Out Against Crime 2011
The 61st Precinct (2575 Coney Island Avenue) joined citizens, other law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from more than 15,000 communities across all 50 states in the National Night Out celebrations on Tuesday, August 2.
Hundreds of people packed into the lot behind the precinct, enjoying giveaways, performances and free food from local businesses and community groups. The 28-year-old annual event is intended to increase awareness of crime and drug prevention in the community, as well as generate support for local anti-crime programs – and also to let criminals know who the streets belong to.
Organized nationally by the National Association of Town Watch, the event sees more than 30 million participants across the country each year.
To explain the event, Daniel T. Allen produced the video above, narrated by Kenan Tashkent, the first vice president of the 61st Precinct Community Council and an NYPD Auxiliary Police Officer.
