Urban Gardens

One dilemma we have as Brooklynites is where to park our cars. The temptation to create one’s own parking spot is great for homeowners with front yards.

Neighbors battle privately and publicly about the proper use of front yards. On one hand, people should be able to do what they want with private property. On the other hand, front yards add to the street-scape of the neighborhood.

Thus far Kensington has avoided the brunt of these arguments. Many of our neighbors are proud of their green spaces.

On one of Kensington’s busiest streets–McDonald Ave–we’ve found neighbors who’ve turned their front yards into oasis of green.

For some, it’s a simple lawn with enough room for kids to throw a ball.

For others the area is a sculpted masterpiece.

These gardens make walking along McDonald Avenue more pleasant.

If you have a green front yard, consider signing up for the Greenest Block in Brooklyn. Clinics are available on a limited basis for contestants.
