UPDATE 4:16pm: The crime scene at the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th Street is allegedly linked to a fatal shooting outside of Motivo, a Manhattan nightclub, according to the New York Times.

“On Monday, the department learned the license plate had been picked up by several license plate readers that the police have around the city,” wrote the New York Times. “They tracked the vehicle to Brooklyn. Then, around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, an officer assigned to the Warrants Squad spotted the car around 10th Street and Fifth Avenue, the official said.”

EARLIER: A police investigation has been ongoing since late morning today (Tuesday, October 13) at the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th Street — directly in front of Jo, Brian & Joseph’s Key Food at 493 5th Avenue.

According to neighbor Tom Prendergast — who witnessed the original incident — three arrests were made.

When we arrived on the scene at approximately 12:30pm, two officers were watching over a white Infiniti with New York license plates that was parked just outside of the Key Food.

The intersection seemed relatively normal, with merchants, shoppers, and pedestrians going about their daily business.

Officer Ward of the 78th Precinct said that the investigation was “currently under the supervision of the Warrant Squad.”

Traditionally, a Warrant Squad searches for suspects who have active warrants on them for their arrest.

Officer Jorgensen of the 78th Precinct described the scene as “an active investigation.” He explained that he “didn’t want to completely shut down the sidewalk to cause an inconvenience for pedestrians and cars.” He told us that the car itself could not be touched due to the ongoing investigation.
