Upcoming Classes For Adults In Ditmas Park

Who says the 10 and under set deserve all the fun? Teens and adults can also learn some new skills locally this month and next, including yoga, sewing and home decor tricks, and even fun with plants.

No Sweat Sewing Workshop at the Flatbush Reformed Church
890 Flatbush Avenue (on the corner of Church Avenue), in the basement of the building behind chapel
Saturday, April 26 from 1:30-4:30pm
Flatbush Mutual Aid heads up these workshops, held each second and fourth Saturday of the month and designed to help beginners learn the basics of sewing machines. Participants are asked to bring a few garments needing repairs or simple alterations, as well as a donation for machine parts and materials–and leave the rest up to your fabulous instructors!

Build Your Own Terrarium at Stems Flower Shop
1118 Cortelyou Road (between Stratford and Westminster Roads)
Saturday, April 26 at 3pm
This class, presented by Knees on Leaves, will show you how to make a personalized glass terrarium (great as a Mother’s Day gift, or, hey, just for you). $50 includes materials and some cocktails, of course–and assuming the weather stays this nice, the plan is to do it all outside. To reserve your spot, call 347-240-5850 or email stemstheflowershop@gmail.com.

Make Your Own Lampshade at Brooklyn ARTery
1021 Cortelyou Road (between Stratford Road and Coney Island Avenue)
Saturday, April 26 from 3:30-5:30pm
Want to freshen up your house for spring? Let instructor and experienced DIY-er Kiri Masters show you an easy way to breathe new life into a room with a 12″ drum lampshade in your choice of fabric. The class is $40, and is open to teens and adults who sign up ahead of time.

Yoga for Abundant Bodies at Third Root
380 Marlborough Road (between Cortelyou and Dorchester Roads)
Tuesday, May 6 from 8:15-9:30pm
Our local community health center offers this class “specially designed to celebrate practitioners of all shapes and sizes” with Shri Devi Grier the first Tuesday of each month. Classes are $15 each, but multiple class cards can knock that price down significantly (leading up to this month’s class, Third Root was offering a $30 card good for three abundant bodies classes). Learn more about the idea behind the class here, then simply show up on time.
