Unwanted Garbage Can Back on Foster
A city garbage can mysteriously appeared on Foster Ave at Marlborough last week, about two years after residents in the area campaigned to have all the cans along Foster Avenue from Newkirk Plaza to Coney Island Avenue removed. Nobody’s sure where the can came from, but Community Board 14 has already requested that the Department of Sanitation remove it.
With just two regular pick-ups per week on this stretch of road, neighbors had complained in 2010 that the trash cans were regularly overflowing, with trash strewn all over the street. Since the bins were removed, many feel that the street has seen a big improvement in cleanliness.
It’s something of a catch-22, of course, if you’re walking nearby and you’re carrying something you’d like to throw out. Thankfully since the Newkirk Plaza rehabilitation was completed, at least there are several cans on the Plaza now, which is nearby–and those are emptied regularly.
