Union Beauty Expanding Into Neighboring Storefront

After almost two years in the neighborhood, Union Beauty is nearly busting at the seams — but not for long, as they begin work today to expand the beauty salon space.

Owner Angela Taormino, who opened the self-described “petit” salon at 849a Union Street in the summer of 2013 after working for a decade at spaces in Manhattan, tells us Union Beauty will be taking over the storefront next door. Union Beauty will be closed today and tomorrow to create the opening between the two spaces, and Angela says she hopes to open the overall expanded salon in May.

The space they’re adding is the former home of Fiber Notion, which closed in December to focus on online sales.

“When Kat, the owner of Fiber Notion, decided to take her business online, we jumped at the chance to add more space,” Angela says, noting that the expansion of the currently cozy space will allow for an upgrade of six chairs from three, plus two more shampoo sinks — plus, it gives the salon an opportunity to increase its staff.

“We’re looking to grow the team as well, looking for stylists and apprentices,” she says. “Currently there are three stylists total, but the demand keeps us pretty.”
