Two People Dead After Being Thrown From Motorcycle & Falling From Gowanus Expressway Overpass

Police are investigating an early morning crash that left two people dead when they lost control of their motorcycle on the Gowanus Expressway and fell to the pavement below an overpass.

Police say 30-year-old Jose Chevere of Brooklyn Heights and 24-year-old Jalissa Otero of Bay Ridge were traveling eastbound on the Gowanus on a Kawasaki motorcycle at about 2am on Friday when they failed to navigate a curve in the roadway, losing control of the bike and striking a cement wall, and then were ejected from the motorcycle, falling about 36 feet to 17th Street near 3rd Avenue, below the expressway. The two were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Daily News notes Otero’s family and friends were on the scene and overcome with grief, in particular her mother, who says Otero has a 6-year-old son. NBC News adds that they had been on a group ride before the crash, and that some of their friends saw the crash happen in front of them.

Our thoughts go out to all those who knew them.
