Two Pedestrians Fatally Struck While Crossing The Street In Bath Beach Last Night
A man and a woman are dead after being struck by vehicles in separate incidents in Bath Beach Wednesday night.
Sofiya Ostrovskaya, 66, of Gravesend, was slammed by a speeding car in a hit-and-run on Cropsey Avenue near Bay 35th Street at 7:16pm, police said.
Cops are searching for the driver of a black cadillac they believe was hurtling westbound on Cropsey Avenue when the car’s bumper hit Ostrovskaya, sending her flying into the air. She was transported to Lutheran Hospital with body trauma and pronounced deceased. The driver has not been located and no arrests have been made, according to authorities.
At 10pm last night, 61-year-old John Saldiran was struck and killed in front of his home on Bay Parkway near Benson Avenue, say cops. He was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital. The driver, 22-year-old Naghman Mehdi — who remained on the scene — was arrested and slapped with an aggravated unlicensed operator charge. A preliminary investigation revealed that the Saldiran was attempting to cross Bay Parkway from east to west, mid-block, when he was struck by Mehdi’s Lincoln MKT suburban traveling northbound on Bay Parkway.
Investigations are ongoing for both accidents.
