Two Cabbies Robbed In One Week

Two cab drivers were robbed within a week of each other in Fort Greene, according to police.

Police say that both robberies, which were first reported by DNAinfo, took place at knifepoint during daytime while the cabbies were in Fort Greene.

The first of the two incidents occurred at 4:20pm on June 27 while a 55-year-old man was driving his taxi, waiting at a traffic light at the intersection of Park Avenue and Carlton Avenue when an unknown man opened the rear passenger door, displayed a knife, and held up the cabbie, say police. The man then absconded with $120 into 60 Carlton Avenue, but cops were unable to track him down.

Police say the second incident occurred at 7:10am on July 2, just after a 49-year-old male cabbie was involved in a minor fender bender outside of BAM. The cabbie was surveying the damage to his vehicle when he noticed his passenger reaching into the center console of his automobile, removing $650.

“If you come near me, I’ll kill you,” said the unknown knife-wielding thief before he slashed the front and rear tires of the cab, according to the NYPD.

The man then fled on foot along Fort Greene Place into Fort Greene Park and has not been found, say cops. There haven’t been any arrests.
