A Tree Trail Grows In Fort Greene Park
This Arbor Day, make your way to Fort Greene Park for the inauguration of a new tree trail.
The newly renovated path, accessible through the Washington Park entrance on Myrtle Avenue or the DeKalb Avenue entrance, will be reopened to the public on Saturday, April 30th with a celebration from 11am to 3pm.
“The updated Tree Trail at Fort Greene Park is an exciting addition to the park and is perfectly timed to Arbor Day,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver.
The celebration will be led by the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and NYC Parks. There will be guided tours at 11am, 12pm, 2pm, and 3pm. Additionally, there will be a “Spring Blossoms” Weekend Adventure Program at 1pm.
“Through the new self-guided tours, park-goers will be able to engage with their surroundings and nature in a more meaningful and fun way. Learning about our trees and the history of our parks is an important way to deepen our appreciation for our neighborhood green spaces,” added Silver.
The trail is a is a 19 stop self-guided walking tour that was originally created in 2007. It features various species of trees such as American Elm and Himalayan White.
