Save The Earth — Tree Giveaways Begin This Week!
You can help make our community greener!
Tree Giveaway events are starting this week. Register at one of six New York City events this month — including two in our area — to take home your free tree! Registration is now live on the New York Restoration Project website.
In addition to absorbing CO2 emissions and other pollutants, and stormwater, trees literally make the city more liveable. Just think about New York City’s blistering summers.
The federal EPA says that trees and vegetation lower surface and air temperatures by providing shade and through evapo-transpiration. Shaded areas can be 20 to 45°F cooler than the peak temperatures of unshaded areas!
To pick up your free tree, you must agree to:
- Plant it in one of the five boroughs;
- Keep trees properly watered and maintained;
- Plant your tree in the ground of your yard and NOT along streets, in city parks, in containers, or on terraces, balconies or roofs.
**If pre-event registration has closed, a limited quantity of trees will be available at giveaway events on a first-come-first-served basis. Learn more here.
