Transportation Update: Heavy Traffic, No Gas, Subway Situation
With the subway system in such a bad way, people have been relying more on cars than usual. That, combined with other Hurricane Sandy-related issues like loss of power and delivery complications, means gas stations have seen high demand with limited supply. Here’s what it’s been looking like around Park Slope:

Thanks to all the folks on 4th ave in BKLN blocking all intersections to wait on line for the Hess stations, and NYPD for the lack of caring

On top of lines, some stations are just plain running out of gas. A reporter for the Wall Street Journal says the BP on 4th Ave at Douglass ran out yesterday.
Even if you have manage to get gas, it sounds like traffic has been a nightmare. The city instituted a three-person-per-car rule for vehicles going into Manhattan, and as we mentioned yesterday, the subway is back in a limited way, but buses are shuttling people over the East River. Inevitable backups have been seen, but it sounds like it’s better for people using the shuttles and buses.
Made it to bk but traffic at a standstill on Flatbush

Dear everyone driving on 4th Ave. in BK: Stop. Honking.

sooo… the busses on flatbush get police escorts so they can pass through traffic quickly… that means sirens every 6 or 7 minutes.

Did anyone try to use the subway/shuttles? How did that go? Or have you been driving in the city this week? How is that going – and where have you found gas?
