Another major grocer is coming to the area: Trader Joe’s, to the under-construction City Point development at 1-7 DeKalb Avenue, on the border of Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene.

The 13,700-square-foot store will be the development’s grocery anchor tenant and will sit adjacent to the upcoming DeKalb Market Hall. It will open some time in 2016 between Fulton and Flatbush Avenues, according to the Commercial Observer.

“We couldn’t see a better match for the fresh food in the market hall as Trader Joe’s has the ability to cut across so many demographics and we will attract people from all the various neighborhoods,” said Paul Travis of Washington Square Partners to the New York Post.

Next year promises to be a big one for food vendors in our area, with the 26,000-square-foot DeKalb Market Hall scheduled to host between 35 and 55 vendors, as well as a restaurant and retailers.

According to Eater, among those already signed up to return are Cuzin’s Duzin, Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue, Arepa Lady, Forcella, Steve’s Ice Cream, Pain D’Avignon, a pierogi counter, and a crepe bar. Even the famed Katz’s Deli is rumored to be heading over from its Lower East Side flagship.

Fellow national grocery chain Wegmans is also slated to come to the area, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 2017.
