Too Hot to Cook

If it didn’t require an advanced order, honestly, how many of you would be buying an ice cream cake at John’s for dinner tonight? (Anyone ever try one? If so, how was it?)

Today will be the 13th day of 90+ degree heat this year (in the average year, we only see about 15). So, what are you doing in the kitchen–or have you even seen the stove this summer?

Are you, like Naomi, enjoying popsicles for dinner? We’ve got a number of places in the neighborhood where you can find fruit-filled paletas. Or you could, with some foresight, make your own.

For ice cream, you can try Blue Marble ice cream if you head over to Lark before closing, there are Baskin Robbins shops on CIA at 18th Ave and Flatbush near Church, and two spots on Newkirk Plaza have ice cream–Plaza Gourmet has Hershey’s, and we noticed that the Newkirk Deli recently started carrying gelato, though the containers have seemed empty the past couple of times we’ve gone by.

Of course, if ice cream for dinner isn’t your thing, you could always have someone else do the cooking for you–check out the suggestions from neighbors on delivery and take-out options for some ideas.
