Tomorrow Night, Attend A Feminist Fireworks Display In Prospect Park

Artist Judy Chicago‘s famous feminist work The Dinner Party will be translated into a fireworks show in Prospect Park this weekend to celebrate her 75th birthday. A Butterfly for Brooklyn is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 7:30pm at the north end of the park’s Long Meadow, although pyrotechnics will likely begin a bit later, after dark.

“The site-specific work, measuring approximately 200 feet wide by 180 feet high, will appear to levitate, swirl, and move,” says the Prospect Park website. A Butterfly for Brooklyn is the outdoor component of Chicago’s current exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, which is on view until September 28, and attendees can expect fireworks, as with the dinner party, to portray “motifs that are based on vulvar and butterfly forms.”

As the weather improves, neighbors can expect to hear more fireworks shows not just in Prospect Park but across the city. To avoid being caught by surprise, especially by fireworks outside of our area, bookmark this page or sign up to receive emails from Notify NYC.
