This week’s #ThrowbackThursday photo takes us back to World War II, when women were working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II in roles ranging from seamstresses, pipe fitters and welders. At the height of the war, more than 70,000 people, including 10,00 women, were employed at the navy yard. By 1945, workers at navy yard built 17 ships and repaired 5,000 others.
