Three Weeks Of Kensington Felonies: $25K Lost To Counterfeit Checks, Accosted Man Twists Robber’s Hand And Both Flee & More

Thanks to the continuing support of 66th Precinct Commander Michael Deddo, the Kensington felony report is making a comeback. Below are brief descriptions of some criminal events that took place from Thursday, January 1 to Monday, January 26 in Kensington’s NYPD sectors G and K.  Again, the same overworked officer is putting this together for us in her “spare” time. A shout-out to her dedication.

Sector G covers the area from Beverley Rd to Ave F and from 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue; Sector K runs from Caton Ave to Beverley Rd and from 37th Street to Coney Island Ave. The entire precinct is split into 13 sectors, lettered A-J.

ROBBERY

Monday, January 12 at 4:30pm, reported 40 minutes later.
Church Avenue & McDonald Avenue F train stop
A teenage boy allegedly jumped in front of  a 26-year-old man as he walked up the staircase at the Church Avenue F train stop, put a knife to his neck, and said, “Give me what is in your pockets.” The young man twisted the perp’s hand, pushing him away. Both fled: the perp back into the station empty-handed and the victim to the street.
The Brooklyn Robbery Squad arrested two boys, ages 15 and 16, the next day, January 13.

Thursday, January 15 at 12:40 pm, reported 40 minutes later.
E. 2nd Street between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
Police said an 18 year old man reported allegedly being punched twice in his chest by a 35-year-old man, who then reached into the young man’s pocket and took $1,200 cash and his iPhone 5s. The punches resulted in chest pain, police said.

FELONY ASSAULT

Tuesday, January 13 at 2:57 am, reported 1 hour and 45 minutes later.
Coney Island Avenue between Ditmas & 18th Avenues
A man, 26, told police four perps allegedly punched him in the face, inflicting lacerations and bruises and leaving the man with a swollen lip, nose and face.
The 70th Precinct arrested three teenaged boys and a 22-year-old man at the time of the incident.

Thursday, January 15 at 4am, reported five minutes later.
Church Ave at  E.  3rd Street
A man, 20, came up behind a woman, 61, returning home from the store and allegedly hit her on the head with a beer can, injuring her head and right hand.
The 66th Precinct arrested the man at the time of the incident.

Sunday, January 18 at 12:05 am, reported 1 hour and 15 minutes  later.
14th Avenue between Church Avenue & 35th Street
Two men, both 35, argued over music’s loudness. The perp ended the discussion by allegedly hitting his opponent’s head with the glass portion of blender, causing a laceration on the back of victim’s head and left hand.
The 66th Precinct arrested the man at the time of the incident.

Sunday, January 18 at 1:30 pm,  reported 40 minutes later.
Church Avenue between Dahill Rd & McDonald Avenue
A man, 26, told police the perp, 27, allegedly pointed a knife at him with intent to hurt and struck him with a metal kitchen sharpener, leaving a small welt in the victim’s left arm.
The 66th Precinct Detective Squad arrested the perp the next day, January 19.

BURGLARY

Sometime between 12pm on Tuesday, December 24 and Thursday, January 1 at 4 pm. Reported  1 hour and 41 minutes later.
McDonald Avenue between Church Avenue & Avenue C
Upon his return from a holiday vacation, a man, 26, discovered someone had entered his apartment thorough a rear bedroom window, breaking the metal gate. He told police among the items stolen were Toshiba and Dell laptops, a Samsung voice recorder, kids’ Disney luggage, a Super Nintendo, games, Sony Blu-Ray, external hard drive, Swatch, Seiko and Guess watches, and jewelry. In total, the items were valued at $9,000.

Sometime between 7pm on Monday, January 4 and 8am on Tuesday January 5, reported 6 hours later.
Cortelyou Road between E. 8th & E. 9th Streets
Police reported they received a burglary complaint but lack important details. Someone entered a building through the rear door, broke into the laundry room, attacked the money machine, and took cash, police said. The object used to break the cash machine or the amount stolen is unknown, as is any clue to the perp’s identify.

Monday, January 5 between  5:30pm and 8:55 pm, reported 10 minutes later.
Ocean Parkway between Cortelyou Road & Ditmas Avenue
A man, 38, told police thieves gained entrance to his apartment through the fire escape window at the back of his living room. The individuals allegedly ransacked the apartment and took $2,300 worth of property, including a Dell laptop, an Apple MacBook, and Chase and TD bank checkbooks.
66th Precinct Detective Squad arrested a 16-year-old boy January 14.

Thursday, January 22 at 11:35 pm, reported half an hour later.
Ocean Parkway between Cortelyou Road & Ditmas Avenue
A woman, 30, told police she saw a man, about 5-feet-10-inches, at her kitchen fire-escape window, crowbar in hand, attempting to open her locked window. “Open your window or I’m going to shoot you,” the man said, according to police. But much to her relief, he neither shot her, gained entry, or took any of her property.

GRAND LARCENY

Friday, January 2 between 1–6 am, reported 6 hours later.
E. 4th  St between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
A man, 31, told police he discovered his laptop, iPhone, wallet with $300 in it, and his driver’s license were missing when he awoke. The man shares the apartment with three other people who allegedly have access to his bedroom, police said.

Friday January 2 between 4–6 pm, reported 22 hours later.
Ocean Parkway between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
Police said someone stole a 38 -year-old man’s UPS package, which was left at the front door of the building’s lobby. In it were two iPad minis and an iPad cell phone, police said.

Sometime between 12 pm on Friday, December 12 and 6pm on Tuesday, January 13, reported immediately
Fortuna Bus Company, 1329 36th Street
According to police, a company official reported someone had allegedly counterfeited its checks and had made approximately $25,000 in withdrawals from the business’s checking account.

Sometime between Monday, January 19 at 10:30 pm and Tuesday, January 20 at 4 am. Reported 10 hours and 40 minutes later.
Albemarle Rd between E. 4th & E. 5th Streets
A man, 22, told police he’d parked his vehicle in the driveway, only to discover stuff missing the next morning, without any damage to vehicle. The missing items included a MacBook Pro, a Mont Blanc pen, Prada sunglasses and a tool bag.

Sometime between Thursday, January 22 at 6 pm and Friday, January 23 at 5:10 am. Reported 15 minutes later.
Ocean Parkway between Beverley Road & Avenue C
A 38-yr-old taxi driver who parked his vehicle on the street returned in the morning to find its rear passenger window broken. He was also missing a GPS, a recording device, his T.L.C. license, his debit card, and $20, police said.

Sometime between Thursday, January 22 at 4 pm and Friday, January 23 at 7:49 am. Reported 4 hours and 30 minutes later.
Ocean Parkway between Caton & Church Avenues
A woman, 57, reported unauthorized use of of her bank card, leaving her responsible for $1,874 in charges, police said.

Sometime between Wednesday, January 21 at 8 pm and Friday, January 23 at 12:30 pm. Reported 1 hour and 30 minutes later.
E. 7th St between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
The police said a 72-year-old man returned the next day to his parked car to find the rear window on the driver’s side broken and a woman’s mink coat missing.

Friday, January 23 at 7:30 pm, reported 1 hour and 15 minutes later.
McDonald Avenue & Albemarle Road
A woman, 27, told police that while she was texting on the street, a 20-year-old man allegedly snatched her Samsung S4 phone from her hands.

Sometime between Saturday, December 27 at 3 pm and Friday, January 23 at 6 pm. Reported two days later.
E. 3rd St between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road.
A 45-yr-old man told police someone unknown opened a Verizon cell phone account using his name and information.

Monday, January 26 at 1:40 pm, reported 3 hours later.
McDonald Deli & Grill, 468 McDonald Ave off Church Avenue
Police say a woman, 55, made a purchase at this deli and left her wallet behind on the store’s counter. She returned to claim it five minutes later, but it was no longer there, she told police.  It contained her debit card, Master Card, and $20.

GRAND LARCENY AUTO

Sometime between Wednesday, January 7 at 10:30 pm and Thursday, January 8 at 7:30 am. Reported  3 hours and 30 minutes later.
McDonald Avenue between Church Avenue & Avenue C
A woman, 29, told police an unknown perp took her 2014 Volkswagen Jetta Silver from where she’d parked it.

Sometime between Thursday, January 1 at 7 pm and Saturday, January 10 at 10 am. Reported 3 hours later.
Avenue C  between E. 7th & E. 8th Streets
A man’s car was no longer where he parked it, he told police. This time it was a 2003 grey Honda Accord which belonged to a 25-year-old man, police said.
