Thousands Celebrate Eid Al-Fitr In Kensington

Thousands of people came out to Coney Island Avenue Sunday night to celebrate Eid al-Fitr – the last day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan – at the sixth annual Chand Raat Bazaar. Thanks to neighbor Donald Loggins for these photos – and if anyone else has pictures of the festivities, feel free to email us at editor@kensingtonbk.com!

From 5pm to 2am, neighbors celebrated the day (which marks an end to a month that focuses in part on individuals learning what it means to be less fortunate by fasting during the day) with many fun activities, including henna and face painting, arts and crafts, games, and more. The NYPD sponsored a rock climbing wall, and a number of community leaders were present, including Community Board 14 Chairman Alvin Berke.

The American Council of Minority Women hosted the event, which was on Coney Island Avenue between Foster Avenue and Avenue H. Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate, and let us know what you did to mark the end of Ramadan!
