This Week at the Cortelyou Greenmarket
Tomorrow is Sunday and that means that the Cortelyou Greenmarket is back.
“Stock up on your favorite summer goods, there are plenty of tomatoes, corn, peppers, squash, cucumbers, beets, greens, peaches and apples,” says Cortelyou Greenmarket Manager Samantha Blatteis. “Stop by the info tent to taste an easy summer dish, and enter the raffle. Keep in mind that Cortelyou Greenmarket will also be open next Sunday, during the Labor Day weekend.”
Bring unwanted clothes and other textiles and/or food scraps for collection on the corner of Rugby and Cortelyou from 8am to 1pm.
For every five dollars you spend with your EBT card, you will receive a $2 Healthbucks coupon free for fruits and vegetables. WIC and FMNP checks are also gladly accepted at market.
Avoid ticketing and towing by not parking on Cortelyou or Rugby Roads. Visit the info tent to use your debit, credit, or EBT cards. For more info, follow Cortelyou Greenmarket on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
The Greenmarket runs every Sunday, rain or shine, 8am to 4pm between Argyle and Rugby.
Of course, Cortelyou’s Greenmarket is not the only game in town. On September 8th, the Union Square Greenmarket and the Greenmarket Youth Education Project are hosting the kid-friendly Greenmarket Sandwich Smackdown.
“The Smackdown will be an opportunity for kids ages 6 to 14 years old to show off their sandwich making skills and love for local food!,” says Samantha Blatteis. “Teams of kids and adults will be working together to shop for local ingredients at the Union Square Greenmarket to create the ultimate market-inspired snack. Teams can represent organizations and clubs from around New York City and gain exposure at Greenmarkets largest market, Union Square.”
Kids and adults interested in forming a team to represent an organization, company or individual group can sign up here or email Liz Carollo at lcarollo@grownyc.org to register.
