Poetry by Adults for National Poetry Month
When: Daily, through April, from 10am-4pm
Where: Clinton Hill LIbrary at 380 Washington Avenue
What: If you write poetry – SUBMIT A POEM YOU WROTE, a haiku, limerick, cinquain, sonnet, riddle, shape poem, whatever you choose…if your poem is chosen, by the Librarian Staff, YOUR POEM WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE LIBRARY’S LOBBY AREA FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL. If you like, you may use a pen name on your submission.  Your poem may not be longer than 1 page.  Please submit your poem into the Poetry Box sitting on the information desk. Whisper or Shout: Artists in the Social Sphere
When: Ongoing through May 1, 2016 · 10:00am – 6:00pm except Mondays
Where: BRIC House, 647 Fulton Street
What: Whisper Or Shout features the work of nine artists who engage with a range of critical contemporary social and political issues. Each of the artists will bring different issues to the table, including police violence, homelessness, gentrification, and cultural self-determination, to name a few.

Greenlight Bookstore’s Book Group discusses Luke Barr’s book Provence, 1970: M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, James Beard, and the Reinvention of American Taste

What: Led by Greenlight bookseller Geo discusses Luke Barr’s book Provence, 1970: M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, James Beard, and the Reinvention of American Taste: a story of singular historic moment. In the winter of 1970, more or less coincidentally, the iconic culinary figures James Beard, M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, Richard Olney, Simone Beck, and Judith Jones found themselves together in the South of France.

Zumba Class

What: Have fun and meet new people while fulfilling your New Year fitness resolutions. Our free Zumba classes are taught by certified Zumba instructor Arturo Perez.

Greenlight Poetry Salon

What: Greenlight’s quarterly Poetry Salon welcomes locally and nationally celebrated poets for an intense and joyful evening of wine, poetry, and performance.

Drop-in Computer Class
When: Wednesday, April 13 at 1pm
Where: Walt Whitman Library at 93 St Edwards St
What: Do you have a specific question about how to use computers or find your way around the Internet?  No time to attend a formal class?  Join our drop-in computer lab for personalized assistance.

AARP Free Tax Help
When: Wednesday, April 13 at 1pm
Where: Bedford Library at 496 Franklin Avenue
What: All AARP free tax preparation sites for low and middle income taxpayers operate on a first come, first served basis. To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

Shape Up: Dance Fitness

What: Free exercise class with a community volunteer. No pre-registration required.

Trivia Night

Teen Chefs Cooking Class
When: Wednesday April 14 at 4pm
Where: Bedford Library at 496 Franklin Avenue
What: Whether you love to cook or are just learning, this class is for you! Once a month, we’ll cook a new recipe together using a few basic ingredients and a toaster oven. So stop by, learn something new, and enjoy a snack at the end

BAMcafé Live: The New Cookers
When: 
Friday, April 15 at 9pm
Where: Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: Taking its name from legendary jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard’s touchstone 1965 Blue Note album The Night of the Cookers, this Brooklyn-based ensemble excels in hard-bop jazz with a subtle hip-hop influence. They meld old-school bebop with contemporary rhythms, forging a bold, distinctive sound that pays tribute to their borough’s rich musical heritage. The group returns to BAMcafé as part of the 17th annual Celebrate Brooklyn Jazz Festival.

Toddler Time with RIF

What: The more you read, sing and talk with toddlers, the more they learn! Have fun hearing great picture books read aloud and playing with other children during this program dedicated to active toddlers. (18 – 36 months).

Teen Tech Time

What: Come race your wheels off, battle your heart out, and dance your socks off with Wii games at the library! We have sports games, dancing games, racing games, and more! No registration or experience necessary.
