What: The discussion, hosted by Brian Vines (Senior Producer, Brooklyn Independent Media) will set out to reshape the dialogue around urban youth and violence. From the Baltimore uprising to viral teen beating videos, the media has once again turned its gaze on youth, asking are they out of control “thugs,” “brutes,” or “animals”? We’re looking beyond the violence gone viral and trying to connect with the real issues facing urban youth. What role is media playing in both sensationalizing and desensitizing violence? What are the circumstances today that lead to violent expressions of anger? How are our institutions failing young people? And most importantly, how can their voices help us understand the call to action?

Fiasco Theater’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”
When: Through June 20

What: Crackling and quick-moving, The Two Gentlemen of Verona may well have been Shakespeare’s first play. A seemingly simple tale of shifting devotions among mismatched lovers, it helped launch the enduring genre of rom-com. Yet its delightful madcap surface conceals undercurrents, as its putative hero proves a cad and a faithless friend. A beguiling, nuanced production from the theater that brought us Cymbeline, and Into the Woods to the Roundabout Theatre.
How much: $60-85 per person (use code: GENT55 for $55 tickets). Purchase online or by phone at 866-811-4111.

Each work is a reflection of not only the dancer’s beauty aesthetically, but even more importantly, the required expression and passion to achieve artistic excellence. Many of the dancers featured in each painting are established professionals in premier ballet companies in the city, such as American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet.
