MONDAY, AUGUST 24

Yoga at Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm
When: Monday, August 24 from 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Grange Farm, entrance at 63 Flushing Avenue at Brooklyn Navy Yard
What: Open to practitioners of all levels. Class will begin with a brief centering, a collection of ourselves in breath and space, and will gently evolve into a flow of movement and meditation. In community, we’ll move, breathe and connect to our inner and outer landscapes. Classes held at dusk to enjoy the herb-scented breeze as the sun sets behind the Manhattan skyline. **PLEASE NOTE: BYO Yoga mat, water bottle, and please make sure you have a photo ID for entering the yard.**

Computer Basics for Seniors
When: Monday, August 24 from 6:30-9:30pm
Where: BRIC Arts House at 647 Fulton Street
What: BRIC is very proud to announce Tech Basics, an all-new series of free classes specifically designed to help seniors up their tech skills. We are offering six classes throughout the summer— three to help seniors increase their computer literacy and the other three are to help seniors increase their social media literacy.

Author Talk: Jess Row and Victor LaValle
When: Monday, August 24 at 7:30pm
Where: Greenlight Bookstore at 686 Fulton Street
What: Jess Row’s startling and deeply moving debut novel Your Face In Mine centers around a man who has had “racial reassignment surgery” to change his race from white to black. Delving into questions of identity through complicated, perfectly articulated characters and an utterly enthralling narrative. Row’s novel illuminates what race means in our lives and how we find and hold onto our place in the world. The novel has been praised by fellow writers including Martha Southgate and Victor LaValle, who calls Row “one of the smartest, most observant contemporary writers around.”

DIY Your Own Everyday Essentials

What: On average, NYC residents produce over 12,000 tons of trash A DAY! Enter Lauren Singer. This waste free powerhouse has taken the Zero Waste lifestyle by storm, analyzing the things she uses, the things she actually doesn’t, and keeping only the necessities in her life. The result? A lot less trash. In this workshop, Lauren will teach us how to make our own toothpaste and body scrub. These are all things that we normally purchase, that come wrapped in all sorts of wasteful packaging, and honestly might not be that good for us!! She’ll give you tips for leading a low waste lifestyle and leave you feeling inspired.

Book Launch: Elisabeth Egan’s “A Window Opens”

Sunset Yoga at Lakeside

What: Stretch out the last few hours of the day and join us Thursdays this summer for yoga movements guided by progressive house beats, trance, and ambient music. Breathe deep, listen, and watch as the sun sets over Prospect Park Lake with Abhaya Yoga and DJ Nagual. All ages welcome, but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Author Talk and Bourbon Tasting

What: In “Bourbon Curious,” award-winning whiskey writer Fred Minnick creates an easy-to-read interactive tasting journey that helps consumers select bourbons based on their flavor preferences. Using the same tasting principles he offers in his Kentucky Derby Museum classes and as a judge at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Minnick cuts to the chase, and the book’s simple, flavor-driven style offers a unique perspective in the world of whiskey books. Minnick talks about the history and future of whiskey with Bill Samuels Jr., chairman emeritus of Maker’s Mark, and offers a guided tasting for audience members.

Show and Tell Photos Of Your Clinton Hill Neighborhood
When: Through August 31 from 10am-6pm
Where: Clinton Hill Library at 380 Washington Avenue
What: Bring a picture and your written short caption/short story that tells the story of your Clinton Hill neighborhood. It can be a picture of a person or persons, a place, a thing, a picturesque memory. All photographic short stories/captions & pictures will be displayed in the Clinton Hill Library for you and your neighbors to see for the month of September 2015.
