Things To Do In Southern Brooklyn This Week: Chess Competition, Yoga, Community Meetings & More

Lots to do in southern Brooklyn this week. Check out the book store going on to raise money for the Sheepshead Bay Library. There is also a digital camera tutorial, a yoga exercise, free flu shots, a smoke alarm giveaway and mammogram screenings. There are also opportunities to get involved in the community with civic groups and a community board meeting.

Friends Book Sale!
When: Daily, 1 – 6pm
Where: Sheepshead Bay Library, 2636 East 14th Street (Near Avenue Z)
What: Support your local library by purchasing a book. There is a large selection of books from all genres. Proceeds go to support the Sheepshead Bay Library.

Smoke Alarm Giveaway

Where: City Councilman Chaim Deutsch’s district office, 2401 Avenue U (Near East 24th Street)
What: City Councilman Chaim Deutsch is sponsoring a smoke detector giveaway as part of the city’s #GetAlarmedNYC initiative, the largest of it’s kind in the country.

Community Board 15 Meeting

What: The members will be examining a plan to enlarge a building on Emmons Avenue, which is occupied by Prime Home Health Services, and also approve plans to reduce the amount of parking at the site by 12 spaces.
