What: If you already speak some English and now would like to speak more like a native, you’ve found the right place. One of the keys to speak like a native is the ability to use and understand casual  expressions, or idioms.

Veterans appreciation night
When: Monday, November 7 at 7 p.m.
Where: 29 Bay 25th Street
What: Assemblyman Colton (47 AD) and community leaders Charles Ragusa and Nancy Tong, with Councilman Mark Treyger will be hosting a Veterans’ Appreciation Night at the Club. The group strongly supports and wants to pay tribute to the heroes who have sacrificed so much protecting our beloved country for generations to come. The veterans’ courageous service will not be forgotten and is the main attention of the Veterans’ Recognition Night.

Coastal flooding meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers
When: Wednesday, November 9 at 6 p.m.
Where: Liberation Diploma Plus High School at 2865 West 19th Street
What: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will discuss proposals to protect the entire Jamaica Bay watershed area — including Coney Island — from storm surges and coastal flooding. City officials will also be present. According to Community Board 13, the Corps may discuss a possible storm barrier for Coney Island Creek at this meeting.

YA writers’ workshop
When: Wednesday, November 9 from 4 to 5 p.m.
Where: New Utrecht Library
What: Creative writing workshop for tweens and teens.

Seniors Fitness in Kaiser Park
When: Tuesdays and Thursday through November 4 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Kaiser Park Tennis Courts
What: Equipment and instruction are provided free of charge at this weekly tennis meetup for senior citizens.
