Things To Do In Ditmas Park This Weekend
So much is happening this weekend! You can check out a free open rehearsal from contemporary choreographer Maria Bauman at Brooklyn College, get your bbq on at Lakeside’s Backyard Jamboree, see some amazing artisanal crafts made by your neighbors at the Fall Art and Craft in the Garden show, and more:
Thursday, October 9
• Sign up for open mic night at 773 Lounge starting at 8pm.
• Gent Treadly performs his acoustic rock ‘n roll at Bar Chord, 9pm.
Friday, October 10
• Sing-along with Lloyd H. Miller at Lark Cafe, 10 & 11am.
• Adults are welcome to join the computer lab at the Cortelyou Library, 11am.
• Join Brooklyn Center for a free open rehearsal and lecture/demonstration by contemporary choreography Maria Bauman. Maria and members of her company, MB Dance, will lead participants in a look at their latest project, “Attend Me,” inspired by the feminist writer Audre Lord, followed by a Q&A. At Brooklyn College’s West Quad Center, Room #205, 12-1:30pm.
• Come to Prospect Park’s Audubon Center for a free cardio toning class, 12pm.
• Meet fellow moms and dads at the New Parent Meet-Up, Lark, 1pm.
• Kids can attend Blooming Naturalists at the Prospect Park’s Audubon Center, 1-2pm Thursdays and Fridays.
• … followed by Nature on the Go, also at the Audubon Center, 2-3pm Thursdays and Fridays.
• Kids ages 8 and up are invited to a creative writing group at the Cortelyou Library, 2:45-3:45pm.
• Learn about local wildlife at Animal Encounter, also at the Audubon Center, 3-4pm Thursdays and Fridays.
• Happy hour with babies and ice cream happy hour are at Lark, 4pm.

• Join neighbor Lola Star for her disco skate party at Lakeside in Prospect Park (buy tickets here), 8-10:30pm.
• Get your heart rate up and explore the neighborhood with Ditmas Rides, meeting in front of the Cortelyou Library at 7pm.
• The John Pinamonti Band plays their American roots music at Bar Chord, 9pm.

Saturday, October 11
• Join a naturalist with the Prospect Park Alliance for a family bird watching tour to learn how to identify some of the 250 species of birds that like to call Prospect Park their home. Meets at the Audubon Center at 10am.
• Visit Compost for Brooklyn’s garden at Newkirk Avenue and E. 8th Street, 11am-1pm.
• Get ready for some Southern hospitality at Lakeside’s Backyard Jamboree, where there will be family-friendly music and entertainment, a southern-style barbeque, a chance to make your own caramel apples, pumpkin decorating, country line dancing, activities, games, and more. Sunday, October 12
• Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis is a family-friendly community 5K walk dedicated to raising awareness and mission-critical funds for cures for digestive diseases. Visit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation for more information. 8:30am-1pm.
• Check out all the fresh veggies, fruit, and more at the Cortelyou greenmarket (Cortelyou between Argyle and Rugby), 8am-3pm.
• The fourth annual Fall Art and Craft in the Garden show, led by Hungry Cat Cafe Jewelry’s CJ Segal-Isaacson, will feature beautiful, well-made artisanal crafts made by area artists. There will also be an array of goodies to snack on, including pecan pies and brownies. At 690 East 18th Street (between Foster and Glenwood), 11am-5pm.
• Kids yoga with Jen at Lark Cafe, 11am.
• Examine the white oak timbers (the bones) of Lefferts Historic House and the many layers that were added, subtracted and changed over the past 230 years with the Prospect Park Alliance. Climb the staircase for a view of the attic’s smokehouse and descend into the cellar for a look at the foundation. For adults and teenagers. • Latin Fever Dance Studio (1609 Cortelyou Road) will hold a Halloween costume exchange. $5 if you bring a costume to exchange, $10 if you don’t. 1pm-4pm.
