Things To Do In Ditmas Park This Week

Happy Monday! There’s so much happening this week – you can see neighbor Dan Loomis and his jazz band, The Wee Trio, perform at Lark Café, learn how to help support the new Q Gardens – a community green space behind the Church Avenue B/Q subway station, let Councilman Jumaane Williams know what projects you’d like funded in our area, go to a free Halloween dance party for children, attend the 70th Precinct Community Council meeting, and lots more.  If you have something you’d like added to our calendar, let us know! Monday, October 27

• Let Councilman Jumaane Williams know what projects you’d like funded in our neighborhood, 6-8pm.
• Check out the weekly Shape Up NYC Couch to 5k Group Run, meeting at the Lefferts Historic House, 7pm.
• Learn how you can help create a community garden in our neighborhood at a Q Gardens meeting, 7:30pm.
• See neighbor Dan Loomis and his jazz band, The Wee Trio, play at Lark Cafe, $10 cover, sets will be at 8 & 9:15pm.
• Work in a neighborhood bar or restaurant? Come take advantage of drink specials at Industry Night, 773 Lounge, 9pm.
• See a live comedy performance at Bar Chord, 9pm.

Tuesday, October 28

• There’s a drop-in sing-along with Dan Loomis (of The Dadbeats) at Lark Cafe, 9am.
• Join the drop-in sing-along with Miss Katie at Lark Cafe, 11am.
• Babies ages 0 to 18 months (and their parents/caregivers) are invited to Babies and Books at the Cortelyou Library, 11:15am.
• Children ages three to nine are invited to Alden LaPaglia’s annual Monster Mash, a free Halloween dance party, at the Cortelyou Library, 2:30pm for 3&4 year olds, 3:30pm for 5&6 year olds, and 4:30pm for 7-9 year olds. The event is free, but you must RSVP here. If there’s no more room, you may contact aldenmoves@gmail.com to be placed on the waiting list.
• Come sing and dance with Amy Miles at Lark Cafe, 4pm.
• Own a business? Attend Councilman Jumaane Williams’ business corridor forum to meet with city officials, financial institutes, business improvement districts, and more, 6-8pm.
Join the Brooklyn Front Runners (a multi-sport club for LGBT and LGBT-friendly athletes) for a run at Prospect Park every Tuesday evening, 7pm.

Wednesday, October 29

• Lend the Wednesday Corps a hand at Prospect Park (call 718-287-3400 for location), 10am.
• Attend a sing-along with neighbor Debbie Deane at Lark, 11am.
• A new gentle yoga class each Wednesday at the Church of the Nativity (1099 Ocean Avenue, by Farragut) will include stretching, strengthening, and breathing deeply, and the instructor noted it’s good for those with arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, or just regular aches and pains. $10 suggested donation, 10:30am.
Brooklyn Historical Society presents “We the People” The Citizens of NYCHA in Pictures and Words,” an exhibition that aims to debunk the varied stigmas and stereotypes applied to people living in NYCHA housing. The exhibition will continue through March 2015 and can be viewed Wednesday through Sunday from 12-5pm.
• Children in grades 1 through 8 can get help with their homework at the Cortelyou Library, 3-5pm.
• Concerned about crime in our area? You can talk to police and legislators at the 70th Precinct Community Council meeting, 7:30pm.
• Attend an open mic night for jazz standards at 773 Lounge, 9pm-12am.
