Things To Do In Ditmas Park This Week

Happy Monday! There’s so much happening this week – you can go to (and participate in!) a bluegrass jam at Sycamore tonight, drink cocktails at a dream weaving workshop tonight, try amazing food and drinks at tomorrow’s Cortelyou at Twilight, see jazz at Bar Chord on Wednesday, and more.  If you have something you’d like added to our calendar, let us know! Monday, October 20

• Check out the weekly Shape Up NYC Couch to 5k Group Run, meeting at the Lefferts Historic House, 7pm.
Stems is hosting a Dream Weaving workshop, led by Ashley Glynn ($50 includes the class plus two cocktails), 7:30-9:30pm.
• Bring your guitars, banjos, mandolins, fiddles and upright basses to play (or just come and hang out) at neighbor Kate Prascher’s Third Monday Bluegrass Jam at Sycamore, 8:30pm.
• Work in a neighborhood bar or restaurant? Come take advantage of drink specials at Industry Night, 773 Lounge, 9pm.
• Singer-songwriter Amandla Turner performs at Bar Chord, 9pm.

Tuesday, October 21

• There’s a drop-in sing-along with Dan Loomis (of The Dadbeats) at Lark Cafe, 9am.
• Join the drop-in sing-along with Miss Katie at Lark Cafe, 11am.
• Babies and children, ages 0 to 5 years old, are invited to a reading of Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells at the Cortelyou Library, 11:15am.
• Come sing and dance with Amy Miles at Lark Cafe, 4pm.
• Children ages six and up are invited to do arts and crafts at Cortelyou Library’s Explore and Create, 4-5pm.
Eat, drink and shop at more than 20 local restaurants and stores at Cortelyou at Twilight (which benefits neighborhood schools), 5-9pm.
Join the Brooklyn Front Runners (a multi-sport club for LGBT and LGBT-friendly athletes) for a run at Prospect Park every Tuesday evening, 7pm.
The John Pinamonti Band performs American Roots music at Bar Chord, 9pm.

Wednesday, October 22

• Lend the Wednesday Corps a hand at Prospect Park (call 718-287-3400 for location), 10am.
• Attend a sing-along with neighbor Debbie Deane at Lark, 11am.
• A new gentle yoga class each Wednesday at the Church of the Nativity (1099 Ocean Avenue, by Farragut) will include stretching, strengthening, and breathing deeply, and the instructor noted it’s good for those with arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, or just regular aches and pains. $10 suggested donation, 10:30am.
Brooklyn Historical Society presents “We the People” The Citizens of NYCHA in Pictures and Words,” an exhibition that aims to debunk the varied stigmas and stereotypes applied to people living in NYCHA housing. The exhibition will continue through March 2015 and can be viewed Wednesday through Sunday from 12-5pm.
• Children in grades 1 through 8 can get help with their homework at the Cortelyou Library, 3-5pm.
• Jazz musicians Titus Abbott and Noel Brennan perform at Bar Chord, 9pm.
