Thief Walks Off With UPS Package On 16th Street Monday
We received a disturbing email from a neighbor living on 16th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues) Monday evening:
Today I was expecting a package between 10-1:00 pm. Without notice (no knock/doorbell rung) the package was delivered under the stoop (I use the top of the stoop entrance) at noon. Around 12:15-20 I saw a man in a nice coat wearing timberland boots IN my front yard-did not recognize him and less than a minute later he walked away with my package and needless to say I was unable to to catch him. Not sure if he followed the UPS truck or saw my package as he walked by or perhaps he was scooping out my place (really hope not) but wanted to warn others this happened.
The 78th Precinct was called, but told the neighbor that, because they did not get a very good look at the perpetrator, a report “wasn’t really going to do much.” The police recommended that they “invest in a security camera,” and always require a signature for packages.
As if that wasn’t enough, officers also mentioned that the 78th currently has extra patrols in the area because of an “increase in car break-ins.”
Has anyone else had packages stolen, or their car broken into recently?
