Thief Steals Package From Hallway, Winds Up With Lame Baby Monitor

Each December, as if on cue, Grinch-like crooks come out of the woodwork and take advantage of neighbors’ good will and holiday cheer by swiping gift packages from porches and hallways — and there seems to be little police can do to stop it.

Occasionally, these thieves get caught in the act on surveillance cameras — like this man, who entered a home in the vicinity of East 4th Street and Avenue T on Wednesday, December 23, at 2:06pm hours, and snatched a box, according to police. But unless the burglar is a brand new father and has use for a baby monitor that was inside, the joke’s on him.

The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. He is described as a black male who is 18-25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches – 6 feet tall, 140 – 160 pounds. He has a slim build, and was last seen wearing a red jacket with black front upper panels, red hooded sweatshirt underneath, and black pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
