The Modern Chemist Now Open On 4th Avenue

Neighbors on the growing 4th Avenue now have a pharmacy, as The Modern Chemist opened its new location at the corner of 4th and Sackett this week.

It’s been quite a transformation. The folks behind The Modern Chemist, which continues to share its first space at 189 7th Avenue with Pure Essentials (which is also expanding to a second location), have redone the entire 4th Ave store, which was previously a tire shop. A framed image of what the corner used to look like welcomes you as you enter.

It’s a full-service compounding pharmacy, which can do custom flavorings on prescriptions for kids, fill medicine orders for pets, and much more. Owner and pharmacist Carlos Urriola and his partners Par Vora (pharmacist) and Juliana Porotsky (consultant) say they’re ready to fill prescriptions, though they’re still stocking up on some items in the store, so expect to see even more soon.

Though they’re still unpacking a bit, the shelves are certainly full of many lovely health and beauty products, including some that you’ll only be able to find in the U.S. at their shop.

“We’re trying to promote local, wellness, and all-natural products,” Juliana said. Brooklyn-made items include Apotheke soaps and candles and men’s beard-care products from Brooklyn Grooming.

“We’re stocking a lot of exclusive items,” she added, pointing to the shelves of Muk hair styling products from Australia.

They’ve also got a lot of items for kids, from all-natural lice shampoo to a few sweet stuffed animals. And if you’ve got any questions or there are particular items that you’re looking for, be sure to ask, and they’ll do their best to help.

The Modern Chemist is located at 191 4th Avenue on the corner of Sackett Street, 347-599-0174. For now, their hours are 8am-7pm daily, though those may change; call ahead to ensure they’re open.
