The Greenmarket Report: Compost & Smashing Pumpkins
Smash those old pumpkins and start thinking about your winter garden this weekend at our local markets!
Want to prep your gardens for the winter with organic, locally-processed compost? Stop by the info tent at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket on Saturday, November 2 to pre-order a 10-pound bag of compost, which will be available for $7 each. If you can’t make it today, email chiteshew@grownyc.org to place your order. Then pick it up next Saturday, November 9 between 8am and 2pm.
Over at the Park Slope Farmers Market on Sunday, November 3, check out the second annual New York Permaculture Festival and Pumpkin Smash at The Old Stone House. The event is a chance to learn about gardening, skill sharing, and more, and yes, you can bring those old jack o’ lanterns to get composted. Plus, once again you can drop off old clothes and other textiles to be recycled by Green Tree Textile Recycling.
The GAP Greenmarket runs Saturdays from 8am-4pm at Grand Army Plaza. The Park Slope Farmers Market runs Sundays from 10am-5pm along 4th Street at 5th Ave.
