The Gallery Players Announce 47th Season
The Gallery Players, the company based on 14th Street between 4th and 5th Avenues, recently announced the lineup for its 47th season, which begins in September. Performances take place Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm, plus 2pm Saturday matinees the last 2 weekends of each show’s run, and Sundays at 3pm.
It’s a pretty broad range of shows, from The Pajama Game to Equus, so there should be something for everyone.
Blithe Spirit
September 7-22, 2013
This much-revived classic offers up fussy, cantankerous socialite-novelist, Charles Condomine; his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira; one Madame Arcati, the ‘happy medium’ enlisted by Condomine to ‘call up’ new material for his book; and his current wife, Ruth, who accidentally ‘passes over’ as a result.
The Pajama Game
October 19-November 10, 2013
The dangers of a workplace romance are explored to hysterical effect in this romantic comedy from the creators of Damn Yankees.
Equus
December 7-22, 2013
In this psychological detective story loosely based on an actual event, psychiatrist Dr. Martin Dysart is confronted with Alan Strang, a boy who blinds six horses in a violent fit of passion, a passion as foreign to Dysart as the act itself.
A Little Night Music
January 25-February 16, 2014
Set in 1900 Sweden, A Little Night Music explores the tangled web of amours centered around actress Desirée Armfeldt and her family.
Medea
March 15-30, 2014
This classic Greek play tells the iconic story of a woman’s revenge for her husband’s betrayal.
Rent
April 26-May 18, 2014
Rent follows a year in the lives of a bohemian group of impoverished young artists and musicians, struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
The 17th Annual Black Box New Play Festival
May 29-June 22, 2014
Each year, previously un-produced one-act — and in exceptional cases, full length — plays are selected, each playwright is paired with a professional director and actors, and the workshopping process begins.
